When it comes to music streaming services, Spotify is the undisputed champion. So when it added 15 hours of audiobooks per month to its Premium plans a year ago, the competition had to step their game up: Amazon Music Unlimited, Amazon's music streaming platform, now lets you borrow an audiobook from Audible every month with your Amazon Music Unlimited subscription at no extra cost.

The audiobooks come directly from Audible, Amazon's audiobook platform, but there is an important difference between listening to an audiobook on Amazon Music Unlimited and Audible. Audible gives you one audiobook credit per month, which lets you keep the audiobook forever, even if you cancel your subscription. Amazon Music Unlimited lets you borrow an audiobook for a month, so it'll go away after the month is up. Of course, you can borrow the same book again if you want.

The approach makes sense from a business strategy, since it doesn't make Audible redundant, and can tempt music subscribers to jump on the Audible platform. If you're a Prime member, Amazon Music Unlimited will cost $10 per month or $99. If you're not a Prime member, it is $11 per month. Subscribers from the United States, the U.K., and Canada will have access to this new perk; if you're on a family plan, it will only be available to the primary account holder.

Remember that you can always sign up for a three-month trial for Amazon Music Unlimited if you want to try the free monthly audiobooks. If you're curious what the catalog for Audible looks like, you can see it here.

Personally, I've found Spotify's audiobook selection underwhelming, with most books I am interested in under a lock. If you're interested in a music and audiobook subscription with a better catalog of audio books, consider Amazon Music Unlimited over Spotify.
