Since earlier this year, Google has been rolling out Workspace extensions for Gemini, allowing it to scan your emails (via Gmail) and documents (via Google Docs and Drive) to inform its responses. The latest open beta expands Gemini's reach to Google Calendar, Keep, and Tasks, not only to improve its answers but also to take action—such as creating, editing, or canceling a calendar event—within Google's apps.
Here are a few things the new extensions can do:
To enable the extensions, tap your profile picture in the Gemini app, select Extensions, and toggle on Google Workspace to connect your account. Note that the extensions for all relevant services must be enabled if your prompt includes tasks for multiple apps, such as creating a calendar event with a reminder. Otherwise, Gemini won't complete either/any of the actions. (The extensions for Gmail, Docs, and Drive, which were released in July 2024, are also in open beta.)
Google began gradually rolling out the Calendar, Tasks, and Keep extensions on Oct. 21, and it could take up to 15 days for these features to be visible to eligible Google Workspace customers. The updates are available only for subscribers with the Gemini Business, Gemini Enterprise, Gemini Education, and Gemini Education Premium add-ons.

In Calendar, Gemini can create events; find events on your calendar using a day, date range, or event details; and edit or cancel events.
In Tasks, Gemini can add reminders and tasks as well as view and update task lists.
In Keep, Gemini can create notes and lists, add to existing lists, and find content from and reference your notes and lists in conversations with the Gemini app.
