If Amazon Prime Day seems like it happens earlier and earlier every year, well, you're not wrong: Starting in 2023, the company has made Prime Day a twice annual affair. The big sale still happens in July, but "October Prime Day" (which Amazon officially refers to as "Prime Big Deal Days," but the company seems to be the only one) is a close second.

And it's here now—the sale runs from Oct. 8-9, and includes discount items across hundreds of product categories. As usual, the best Prime Day discount is to save your money and not buy anything you weren't already planning on getting. But if you're in the market for a new device or gadget, it might be a great time to buy, provided you can sort the great deals from the merely so-so.

With that in mind, here are several of the best October Prime Day deals, as recommended by Lifehacker staff. (And check back throughout the day, as I'll keep updating this post as the deals roll in.)

The best Mac laptop for most people is $250 off

For the past few years, Lifehacker Tech Editor Jake Peterson has been adamant that the best Apple laptop for most people isn't a top of the line model, but an "entry-level" machine powered by one of the company's M-series chips. Last year the 202 M1 MacBook Air looked like a steal at $750, and right now you can get the successor model, the M2 MacBook Air, for the same price.

The M3 MacBook Pro for $300 off

But what if you aren't "most people"? What if you really do need a more powerful Mac laptop with more RAM, a more powerful processor, more storage, and more outputs? Well, it's also a good time to get the higher-end M3 MacBook Pro, which is currently $300 off its $1,600 list price.

A powerful Asus ROG gaming laptop

I don't know anything about gaming laptops, so I'll lean on the expertise of our tech freelancer David Nield here: "The Republic of Gamers (ROG) series from Asus usually impresses, and that's certainly the case with the Asus ROG Strix G16. Not only do you get an Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB of RAM, Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 graphics and a 16-inch display running at up to 165 Hz, it's all yours for $1,099.99—a hefty drop on the previous price of $1,399.99." Sounds good to me!

A capable Chromebook for less than 200 bones

Mac laptops are legendary, but if all you ever do is browse the internet, stream TV and movies, and use Google Docs, you hardly need the power of Apple silicon. If we were all honest with ourselves, we could probably get by with a (much) cheaper Chromebook, and a bunch are on sale for Prime Day. One of our top picks is the HP Chromebook 14, which includes the new N100 processor, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage. It's currently $198, $62 off the retail price.

A Wi-Fi 7 Mesh system for as low as $450

I'm the kind of person who calls up their ISP and asks for the cheapest service they offer, but if you actually care about things like "upload speed" and "download speed," you probably have a hankering for the latest and greatest in wifi connectivity. If so, then it's time to build your own mesh wifi network at home. Right now, a Wi-Fi 7-certified mesh system is about the best money can buy, and for Prime Day, the Amazon Eero Max 7 mesh wifi router is a great deal, relatively speaking, starting at $449.99 (down from $599.99). This considerable chunk of change will get you wired download speeds up to 9.4 Gbps, and wireless speeds up to 4.3 Gbps. If you want more nodes, the router and one node will cost you $$850, while the three-pack with a router and two points is $1,299.99 (originally $1,699.99). (You can read more about the Eero Max 7 in PCMag's review.)

A basic iPad for a killer price

Though it dates from 2021 and still has a physical Home Button and older screen tech, the ninth generation iPad is still a pretty great device, particularly if you're looking for something not too pricey for the kids to bang around. Right now, this model is edging into "ridiculously cheap" territory at $199, down from $329. (If you want something fancier, there are more deals where this one came from.)

AirPods Pro for a record-low price

Apple updated its basic AirPods earlier this year, and while the AirPods 4 are great headphones, they aren't on much of a sale right now, and they lack many of the features of the pricier AirPods Pro. At the moment the 2nd gen Pros are $80 off, and near their lowest-ever price, so you might as well opt for the fancier option with all the best features (including USB-C charging).

Apple's pricey AirPods Max, significantly less pricey

If earbuds aren't your jam and you're still all-in on the Apple ecosystem, you've probably been lusting after the enviable, top-of-the-line AirPods Max for as long as I have. The wireless cans are still Apple's premiere audiophile offering even years after their initial release. This year's upgrade added only a USB-C charing port, but if you're willing to stick with using a Lightning cable, you can pick up these puppies for $155 off the $550 list price.

The Beats Studio Pro headphones for more than half off

Apple-owned Beats makes great headphones that happen to work really well with Android devices too. I personally prefer my Beats Fit Pro earbuds (currently 25% off for Prime Day!) to Apple's AirPods Pro. Were I in the market for some new over-the-ear headphones, I'd give serious thought to the well-reviewed Beats Studio Pros—especially at 51% off. At $169, they're cheap enough that you could buy a pair and some fancy earbuds and still come in under the price of the AirPods Max.

A great pair of budget ANC headphones from Anker

If $170 is still too rich for your blood, you can actually get a great pair of automatic noise-canceling headphones for far less. The Soundcore by Anker Space Q45 are among the best budget ANC headphones you can get, according to PCMag's review. In addition to good audio performance, they offer a 50-hour battery life and have great in-app features.

An unlocked Moto Razr+ foldable for 45% off

I have a complicated love/hate relationship with my iPhone, and I can't say it doesn't sometimes make me long for a simpler, pre-smartphone era—back when the Motorola Razr was the coolest clamshell phone around. Well, those days are sadly long gone, but you can recapture a piece of the past by picking up an unlocked Motorola Razr+ foldable phone. It's still a smartphone, which means you'll be just as addicted to it, but you'll also be able to flip it closed with a satisfying click, just like the old days. Even better: The device is 45% right now—$550, down from $1,000—with no carrier obligations.

An Apple Watch for less than $170

The Apple Watch now rivals the iPhone and iPad for the sheer number of models on the market, and choosing the best one for you can be tricky. But if a combination of great features and a reasonable price is your sweet spot, I recommend going with the 2nd generation of the Apple Watch SE from 2022, currently $170 (down from a list price of $250). Yeah, it's a couple years old, but it still does all the things most people want out of an Apple Watch, from health tracking to syncing all the notifications from your phone. I just got one for my middle school-aged daughter, because I'm a huge sucker.

A bigger QLED TV for a ridiculously low price

Time was, giant widescreen TVs were luxury items, but if Prime Day has taught us anything, it's that a screen big enough to occupy an entire wall of your home is well within your reach—and you don't have to settle for a no-name brand either. While there are a lot of good (and big) TVs on sale, I'm eyeing this 58-inch QLED model from Hisense, which is currently nearly 40% off.

Sure, you could buy a series of ever-larger TVs, or you could just get a projector and go big without centering your decor around a big black rectangle. Lifehacker's deals guru Daniel Oropeza recommends the Yaber K2S 800, an indoor/outdoor 4K projector with Dolby audio and built in support for streaming apps. It's currently $360, 40% off the usual $600 price.

A shockingly good deal on a Blink outdoor camera with an Echo Show

If you've ever priced out a set of Blink outdoor security cameras you know that Prime Day is basically the only time to buy them—they regularly see huge discounts, which is much appreciated when a single camera retails for $100. That should tell you what a good deal this is: You can now get one Blink 4 outdoor camera and an Echo Show—that's the smart speaker with the screen, so you can keep tabs on what your camera sees without opening the smartphone app—for just $60. Given the Echo Show alone is currently $50, that's a killer deal (68% off!).

A kick-ass party speaker for $200 off

Lifehacker deals writer Daniel Oporeza does many things I do not, like play soccer, have lots of friends, and go to outdoor parties where people play music on portable speakers (I usually stay at home and get yelled at by children). If you're more like Daniel and less like me, he can't say enough good things about the JBL PartyBox Stage 320. This indoor/outdoor speaker is A) loud, B) has fun party features like DJ effects, C) has to mic inputs for karaoke sessions, and D) has "Party" right there in the name, so you know it's not for me. A PlayStation 5 that doesn't cost $700

Last month, Sony received a mixed reception to its announcement of the PlayStation 5 Pro, a minor upgrade to its flagship console with a major upgrade in price, with some models going for more than $700. If that's too rich for your blood but you still want to get in on the tail end of this console generation, it's a pretty good time to grab a regular ol' PlayStation 5 Slim edition. Right now, the disc-based version is $50 off, coming in at just under $450.

A colorful Echo Pop, because really, you can't have too many

Amazon imagined Alexa would reinvent the way people shop, but instead of adding things to my Amazon cart with my voice, I usually just think of the AI assistant as the music-playing, weather-reporting servant that lives inside my smart speaker. And I can never have too many of them—at this point, we have five of Echo devices spread throughout the house. If you need one more, I recommend the cheaper Echo Pop over the larger Echo Dot or Echo. They're more colorful and sound just as good, and did I mention they're cheaper? You can grab one right now for $18, which has become the standard Prime Day price.

Our reviewer's pick for a great robot vacuum/mop combo

There are a lot of robot vacuums out there, all promising to revolutionize the way you clean your home (or don't while a machine does the work for you). Lifehacker has tested a bunch of these little guys over the years, and our reviewer Amanda Blum's top pick among the models on sale for Prime Day is the Roborock S8 Max Ultra, currently a full $500 off. In Amanda's words, the Roborock line "remains the best, tackling carpet and hard floors with equal aplomb."

(If more than $1,000 is too rich for your blood, the slightly less powerful S8 Pro Ultra is $200 cheaper and, at 44% off, is on an even deeper discount.)

A reliable entry-level robot vacuum for more than 50% off

If you don't want anything too fancy, it's also good time to pick up a "starter" robot vacuum now. A great bet, again from Roborock: the Q8 Max combo vacuum and mop. At $280, it's currently more than 50% off the $600 list price, and sports a lot of the features of more expensive models, like app integration, 3D mapping, and simultaneous mopping and vacuuming. (Note that while you might see a different price on the link below, if you click through to Amazon and are logged in to Prime, you'll see the discount.)

A Peloton Bike+ for less than $2,000

The home gym darling of the early pandemic, Peloton isn't quite as ubiquitous as it once was, but it's still the gold standard when it comes to full-featured spin bikes with fancy screens and online classes. And right now, you can get the top-of-the-line Bike+ at nearly $500 off—one of its rare dips below $2,000. It's a lot of cash, but if you want a Peloton, this is the time to buy (the standard Bike is also more than $200 off).

A great exercise bike for way less than a Peloton

Direct from Lifehacker shopping writer Daniel Oropeza: "I got the Merach Exercise Bike after having surgery for a torn ACL. My physical therapy required me to build muscle back on my leg by exercising multiple times a week, so I figured an exercise bike would help. I can't attribute all of my improvements to this bike, but it definitely helped a lot." At $169.99 after a $20 on-page coupon (down from $299.99), it's way cheaper than a Peloton.

Adjustable dumbbells for a price that won't weigh you down

Lifehacker's resident fitness guru Beth Skwarecki has been touting the advantages of adjustable dumbbells for years, and while they are a great addition to any home gym, it's hard to deny that they're pricey. But! Right now you can get a clean lift (that's something weightlifters say, right?) on a pair of Powerblock Elite EXPs, which go from five to 50 pounds, for $300, down from the normal $449.

A great Garmin smartwatch for runners for 45% off

My body was not built for running, but for some reason Lifehacker's Senior Health Editor Beth Skawrecki submits herself to it willingly, so I'll take her word for it when she recommends the Garmin Forerunner 255 Music as a great choice for people who actually like moving faster than a brisk walk. It works with Strava, stores your music so you don't need to bing a phone with you, and is currently $220, a 45% savings. (Note that while you might see a different price on the link below, if you click through to Amazon and are logged in to Prime, you'll see the discount.)

A three-pack of water leak sensors that could save you big on repair bills

A couple years of editing our smart home writer Amanda Blum's posts have opened my eyes to all the areas of my home I'm not paying attention to, and how various sensors could be doing the job for me. Case in point: These leak detecting sensors from Aqara, which will alert you when they detect water where it shouldn't be. If you own a home, you know why that's a big deal, because the sooner you find a leak, the less damage that errant water will do. Certainly seems worth investing $38 for a three-pack (down from $55).

The smart dehumidifier that solved my smelly basement problems

Speaking of moisture where it shouldn't be, if humidity is a problem in your home, and especially in your basement, I can't recommend highly enough the Midea Cube smart dehumidifier (from the makers of those U-shaped air conditioners everyone is obsessed with. I live in an older home with an unfinished basement that was always muggy unless the furnace was running, making mildew and musty smells a real concern. Then I got this dehumidifier, which works via an app and integrates with my Alexa smart speakers. All summer, it did a great job of keeping the basement at around 50% humidity. Clothes line dried faster, smells disappeared, and I was able to constantly monitor the water level and receive alerts right on my iPhone. In addition to being generally well-reviewed (my own full take is coming soon to this site!), it's one of the most efficient Energy Star-rated humidifiers for 2023—and right now, it's on a rare discount, with all sizes marked down around 15%-17% for Prime Day.

A HEPA-certified air purifier for $80 off

While my basement smells a lot better now, the air in my home is still crowded with dust, allergens, and pet odors, which is why I also tend to keep an air purifier running whenever my sinuses seem to be acting up. If you're looking for a good deal on a HEPA-certified machine, I can recommend this large-room model from Honeywell (we use one with a bit larger capacity to clear the air on most of our first floor). It's got a high capacity, runs fairly quietly, and is currently 36% off.

A four-quart air fryer to give your oven a rest

After years of hype, air fryers may seem like yesterday's news, but if you don't have one yet, you really are missing out. I scoffed at them for years—isn't that just a trendier way to say "convection oven"? But then someone gave me a super small one as a gift, and I proceeded to start using it to do 80% of what I used to flip on my oven for, from roasting veggies to heating up frozen treats. It's so much faster and more efficient that this year I'm springing for a larger model—and the four-quart Instant Vortex is already in my Amazon cart. (It comes recommended by Lifehacker food writer Allie Chanthorn Reinmann too.) It's currently $70, nearly half off the $130 list price.

A Nespresso with a milk frother, if you must

Look, I'm a coffee snob. I don't try to hide it. And while I generally eschew pod- or packet-based coffeemakers of any sort, I cannot deny they are really convenient, especially if you want to make a fancy espresso drink. We might even have one that I got off someone's stoop in Brooklyn. If you have no such stoop-based marketplace thriving near you, right now is a good time to buy one: The Nespresso Veruto Pop+ makes coffee and espresso and includes a milk frother, so you can play barista in your kitchen. It's currently about $54 off for Prime Day. (Use the savings to pick up a bunch of coffee pods.)

A Nutribullet blender for the smoothie-obsessed

We've got a Vitamix, but not enough counter space to leave it out, and when my daughter developed a smoothie-making habit, I started to get really sick of hauling it out every other day. So I got her a tiny Nutribullet, a mini-blender perfect for making smoothies and other small blending tasks. It's been a godsend, by which I mean, I spend a lot less time being annoyed about the mess in the kitchen. I'd love it even more if I had gotten one for 30% off, which is what you can do right now!

A Dyson Airwrap for even less than last Prime Day

My hair hasn't been longer than 5 inches since high school, and even when I looked like the fourth member of Hanson, I didn't curl my locks, so I have zero idea what exactly a Dyson Airwrap does. All I know is that my wife really wants one of them, but it's hard to swallow the wild $600 price tag. As Lifehacker's Lindsey Eleffson (a longtime Airwrap owner) notes, these things rarely go on sale—except right now, you can get one for $100 off, which is $50 less than the "all-time low" the appliance previously hit during Amazon's July Prime Day sale.

This delightfully silly pet toy/pet camera

As Lifehacker's Stephen Johnston tells it, the Rola Cat Robot is "a completely ridiculous but completely awesome robotic cat toy and surveillance camera" responsible for bringing him as his feline friend Peepers closer together. "It's an adorable little robot you can control with an app on your phone, and it takes surprisingly nice-looking 2K video, even when it's dark," Steve continues. "It transmits and listens to sound, and you can press a button to make it meow, bark, or quack. It can even act as a surveillance camera and take pictures or video when something moves in front of it." You can use it to keep your cat or dog company while you're away, or just to keep an eye on your home. It's weird, but cool, and Isn't that the best way to spend your prime day dollars? It's $119, down from $150.

A knockoff LEGO set with retro appeal

I love LEGO as much as the next manchild (which means I love them at least as much, if not more, than my 8-year-old), but wow, are they expensive. I'd sure love to build a scale model of a Pac-Man machine or a vintage Nintendo or a Polaroid camera, but not for like $150 each. Instead, I'm totally ordering this knockoff LEGO set (from "JMBricklayer, LOL) that Lifehacker toy expert Stephen Johnson found, which lets you build a teensy TV, typewriter, and Walkman-like tape player for just $28 (20% off the usual price).

"Permanent" outdoor lights, so you never have to decorate again

I'm blessed to own a home I can decorate for the holidays, but I don't do much to the outside, mostly because I don't want to get on a ladder to string up lights when it's chilly out. But I might make a one-time exception for a set of "permanent" smart holiday lights that you can leave up all year. Since you can program them to change color via a smartphone app, you can even make an outdoor display a year-round affair: Pink for Valentine's Day, green for Earth Day, black for Election Day, etc. etc. A 50-foot strand is under $100 right now (38% off), and longer lengths are discounted too.
